About the Artist

Marilyn Mazin Miller is a contemporary sculptor and installation artist whose work ranges from representational to abstract. She is a native of Louisville, KY and was reared in an artistic home, inspired and influenced by her mother, Bernice Mazin, who was an accomplished painter.

Marilyn graduated from New York University with a degree in Early Childhood Education and while teaching, she started studying ceramic arts and began to nurture and develop her artistic skills and talents. She married, raised two wonderful sons and, with her husband, nurtured a family photography business for over twenty years. During this period, she continued to study a variety of artistic endeavors including pottery, sculpture, and jewelry construction and design, ultimately focusing on her passion for sculpture.

When looking at her work, Marilyn hopes that people appreciate the warmth and beauty of nature - the smoothness and curvaceousness of the human body, the plant world, and the animal kingdom. Working with a variety of materials, including clay, bronze, and stainless steel, she is fascinated with movement, rhythm, and fluidity. Her work exudes sensuality, strength, warmth, and humor.

In 2018, Marilyn changed directions and created her first installation called The Cage Project for Immigration Reform. A total change in media, it was born out of her anger and frustration at seeing immigrant families torn apart at our country’s borders. The project had multiple public showings and garnered much media attention and the experience inspired her to continue working in this medium, combining the visual arts with her dedication to social justice.

Marilyn has studied with master craftspeople in New York and Italy, including Ron Mineo. Her work has been shown at such respected venues as the Viridian Gallery, the Grounds for Sculpture, and the Katonah Museum of Art, among others. She is presently represented by the River Gallery in Narrowsburg, NY and her work is in many private collections.
